I often get emails from infertile couples who ask me which doctor they should go to. For example, " We are looking for the best infertility specialist in Chennai, can you please suggest a doctor " ?
I am very reluctant to name names. There are many reasons for this.
For one, I often do not even know the names of all the IVF clinics in different cities, leave alone how good they are. Since we are very focussed on our clinical practise, this is not surprising.
More importantly, I believe that there needs to be special chemistry between patient and doctor for medical treatment to be successful. It helps if patients search out their own doctor, so they are comfortable with him.
My advise is simple - Make a shortlist of 2-3 doctors and interview all of them. By the time you are on your third interview, you'll have learnt a lot about judging which doctor is right for you. Then, review your choices and make your decision. You need to do your due diligence before selecting an IVF clinic - it's a huge investment, and there is a lot at stake, so it's a good idea not to take shortcuts !
