My name is Nina. I am 33 years old and I live in Nairobi Kenya. My husband (30 years) and I have been trying to conceive for the last three years. At first the doctors here did all sorts of tests on me including a laparoscopy they all came out negative. I have a 12 year old daughter from a previous relationship, conceived naturally and with no difficulties.
After two years of trying to conceive I was asked to bring my husband along and the doctors found out he has severe oligoasthenozoospermia (what causes it and can it be treated). We tried Four IUIs with no success. Later on this year we did ICSI with day 5 blastocysts transfers we did two, one in June and the other in October this year. In the first one they retrieved 13 eggs and only 3 survived to day 5 and were transferred the second one they retrieved 18 eggs only four survived and they implanted all the four. The first one I was told that my Beta was 35 which was low coz their positive is 50. The second one we were very happy when we were told we had gotten pregnant, two weeks after HSG I started to bleed and when I went to the doctor he did a scan and told me I had lost the pregnancy. It was worse than the negative result we thought we were going to die. My husband is HIV + (we found out when we went to the new doc for IVF)We had thought that he would get a child of this time round. We are a discordant couple, the loss shattered him. The costs of IVF are also very high, but we plan to do one next year we only have enough saved for one more. The first one I was put on cyclogest peccaries and I got a terrible yeast infection so the second one I was put on Gestone injections once a day, very painful but I thought it would work. Please give me some advice? What do we do in our circumstance. we are not ready to give up. The Doctor says he will run some tests but they may not help since causes of pregnancy loss cannot be determined. My doctor is called Noreh of the Nairobi IVF Centre he is said to be very good with fertility treatment. Seeing that I can only raise another 3000 dollars. What could have caused the two failures? Chromosomal disorder or Luteal phase deficiency?
