With this background of mixed results Dr Aniruddha Malpani, a senior IVF specialist in Mumbai, says that IVF success rates depend upon so many factors that it's very hard to establish a simple cause-and-effect relationship. "There will be anecdotal successes with any intervention, but this does not mean that causality has been established. Having said that, hypnotherapy is a safe, low-cost intervention and if it helps the patient relax, there's no downside to doing it," says Malpani. At his Colaba clinic in Mumbai patients are asked to practice pranayama, meditate and watch virtual reality videos using Google Glass.
However, Malpani cautions: "It's okay to use these therapies as long as they don't lead to unrealistic expectations from the treatment."
