Fertility preservation after breast cancer - a guide for oncologists from Aniruddha Malpani
Dr Sujit Chatterjee and Dr Arun Shetty from Hirandnani Hospital and International Oncology invited me to give a talk on Fertility Preservation after Breast Cancer at the The Pink Meet for comprehensive breast cancer care.
Thanks to early diagnosis ( because of better awareness , the greater use of mammography and breast self-examination; and better imaging techniques) , the diagnosis of breast cancer is being made more often in younger women, who would like to be able to have babies in the future. Newer treatment protocols and the increasing role of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy translates into more effective treatment and better survival rates. However, these powerful drugs also damage ovarian reserve - often irreversibly.
This presentation talks about how recent advances in assisted reproductive technology can help these women to have a baby !
