IVF failure - what next ?

After an IVF cycle fails, the first question patients ask is - What do we do differently the next time ?

The answer to this question depends upon analysing the failed cycle systematically. After all, in order to move forwards, we first need to look backwards, so we can plan the next IVF cycle more intelligently.

This is why it's so important that you insist that your doctor give you photos of your embryos and your medical records at the time of the transfer ! This information is worth its weight in gold

  1. Hi Dr. Aniruddha and Dr. Anjali, Good Day! My name is Tanuja, am from Karnataka (Davangere District). I have undergone IVF on 27th Oct 2017 with 3 day transfer & total 3 embroy. My beta HCG test was done on 10th Nov (i.e.after 2ww) and the result is <2. My Doctor said my pregnancy result is negative and pregnancy is not confirmed.. I have no frozen embroy left for next cycle and my doctor says we need to restart the ivf process from beginning.. Am really really shocked, heart broken and in panic state.. Kindly help me or advise, Is there any way you can help me in increasing my HCG level and make the embryo hold and get the IVF with positive results during this stage..also kindly suggest should I stop my medication i.e. progesterone susten gel, Lonopin, Gestofit, Hucog Injections? Also pls advise, Should I repeat my beta HCG blood TEST...? PLS PLS PLS advise & help me asap as today is the 2nd after my blood test.. 2. Dear Tanuja,

A negative HCG confirms your IVF cycle has failed, sorry

There's nothing anyone can do about this now

Why are you shocked ? Every IVF patient needs to be prepared for failure - after all, IVF does not have a 100% success rate !

Can you send me more details about your IVF cycle ?
DO YOU HAVE PHOTOS OF YOUR EMBRYOS ?

You can see what embryos should look like at http://www.drmalpani.com/knowledge-center/ivf/embryos

What were the meds which were used for
superovulation ? What was the dose used ? How many follicles did you grow ? How many eggs were collected ? What was the E2 ( estradiol) level in the blood at the time of the HCG trigger ? What was the endometrial thickness ?

What was the embryo quality ?
Can you please send me the printed treatment summary from your IVF clinic ?

We look forward to helping you to have a baby !
