Medical Journals Are an Extension of the Marketing Arm of Pharmaceutical Companies

“Journals have devolved into information laundering operations for the pharmaceutical industry”, wrote Richard Horton, editor of the Lancet, in March 2004. In the same year, Marcia Angell, former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine, lambasted the industry for becoming “primarily a marketing machine” and co-opting “every institution that might stand in its way”

Most doctors have a very high regard for the medical journal. We often delude ourselves that the printed word is infallible - especially when it appears in a medical journal.

Many doctors naively treat what is published in medical journals ( especially if it is printed overseas)  as being gospel truth. This uncritical acceptance often extends to patients and medical reporters as well.

The sad truth , as documented by these ex-editors of the world's best medical journal is that  medical journals cannot be trusted blindly !
