Are IVF babies cleverer ?

People sometimes believe that IVF babies are smarter than normal babies. Since the doctor is choosing the best eggs and the best sperms , and transferring the best embryo in the uterus, it's logical to conclude these babies are going to be better !

This is not true. Ultimately, an embryo is an embryo , whether it's made in the bedroom , or in the lab.

However, it is true that IVF babies have a headstart at birth, and are advantaged as  compared to normal babies. This is simply because their parents are so much more involved and engaged in their care.

After all, when you spend so much time, money, and energy on getting pregnant, you're going to lavish a huge amount of love and care on the child , which is why these children perform much better than ' normal " children.

This is because of the extraordinary parental love and attention they get ,and not because of anything special which we do in the IVF laboratory - though we're always happy to take the credit for our special kids being outstanding !
