Will IVF affect my future reproductive cycles?

One of the biggest concerns patients have with IVF is that when IVF doctors make them grow so many eggs during the IVF cycle, that this will affect the remaining eggs in their ovary .

They are worried that if they're left with fewer eggs, because the doctor has taken so many out, they will reach menopause more quickly , because their ovarian reserve has been reduced.

This is not true.

Remember that you start to produce about 40 follicles in every menstrual cycle. Of these , 39 will die naturally in the bedroom every month, whether or not you do anything. This is a natural process , called follicle atresia, and it's because of this that women become menopausal - they gradually run out of follicles during their lifetime.

 IVF does not affect this process, because the hormones used in IVF only allow us to save the follicles which were otherwise doomed to die anyway.

This is why IVF will not affect your future fertility or your ovarian reserve, so this is not something you need to worry about at all.
