An IVF doctor's request to his patients

As an IVF doctor,  I do my best to help my patients but I often need help from my patients in order to help them . Here are some of my requests.

Please don’t hide stuff from me.

I’m not judgmental, I’m not going to tell you what to do and what not to do, but if there is something which is important, please let me know. I can’t read your mind and I promise you that even if you tell me your deepest and darkest secret, I will not get shocked - I have most probably encountered a patient with a similar problem in the past. If you don’t tell me,  this is just going to compromise the quality of your care.  So for example, if you have had a sexually transmitted disease in the past or you had a pregnancy before your marriage which you had to terminate, just let me know.  This will help me to craft the right treatment plan and this is valuable information which I have no way of knowing until you tell me.

Please trust me.

It’s important that you trust me and it’s important that I trust you , so that we can work together.  If you are not happy with any of my recommendations, let me know.  My ego’s not that fragile that I’m going to get offended if you don’t agree with me ! Since I can’t read your mind, if I tell you something and you nod your head, I assume you are going to carry out my instructions . If for some reason you don’t think my advice is good advice and are not going to follow it, it's helpful if you tell me. Otherwise, this lack of compliance is going to harm both you and me.  It's possible that I’m not the right doctor for you, and if you prefer, I can refer you to someone else , or maybe we can think of a plan B.  There is very little point in my crafting a plan if you are not going to do what I tell you.  You don’t have to agree with everything say but if you don’t, please have the courtesy to let me know what you don’t agree about and why , so we can think of an alternative solution together.

Please give me feedback.

If there’s something which the team at Malpani Infertility Clinic is doing is wrong, or there’s something we can improve on, please let me know , so that we can try to fix the problem before it becomes worse.  There’s no point in bottling up your resentment or being unhappy and not telling me because if you don’t tell me I’m not going to be able to fix the problem.

Finally, please let us know how we can delight you.

If one of our team has done a good job in taking care of you, please let us know.  Positive feedback helps us to do a better job and everyone likes being appreciated ! Complaints are welcome, and we treat them as gifts which help us to improve. Compliments are also welcome , because they give us positive energy which helps us to do a better job in taking care of our patients.
