Work now, conceive later

Sunaina Oza* is a 33-yearold corporate lawyer at a multinational bank in Mumbai. She is single, works almost 10 hours a day and is pushing for a big career leap — her aim is to head the legal department in a couple of years. Her only worry is that she may have to push motherhood into her late 30s. Oza has decided, however, to take charge of her reproductive life by freezing her eggs while she is in her prime.

Oza is one of the six women who have frozen their eggs at Dr Aniruddha Malpani's fertility clinic in Mumbai. All of them are women in demanding professions — lawyers, accountants, doctors, bankers and entrepreneurs. "They want to delay motherhood because their careers are on the fast track," says Dr Malpani.
