Why is an Infertility specialist a better choice than a Gynaecologist?

It is not unusual to find infertile couples being confused as to whether they should consult their gynaecologist or find an infertility specialist to have their problem resolved. What do IVF clinics like Malpani Infertility Clinic offer which a gynaecologist would not be able to?

The average gynaecologist takes a much narrower perspective when treating infertility. An IVF facility , on the other hand, takes a more holistic view. For example, they routinely include the husband in the diagnosis / treatment process. Gynaecologists , who specialise in treating women , don’t deal with the men at all.

Also, many gynaecologists may not be aware of the recent advances in fertility diagnostics and treatment, because this has become a very specialised field. They continue treating infertile couples with obsolete technology – for example, by routinely doing a laparoscopy for them, even though this surgical intervention is not needed.

Also, because they are reluctant to lose their patient to a specialist, they waste a lot of precious time on ineffective treatments such as repeated cycles of clomid or IUI.

This is why it’s a good idea to get a second opinion from a successful IVF specialist. They are experts at dealing with infertility , and can help you make sure you are on the right track.

For example, when an infertile couple comes to see me, I do a  complete workup for them, so that the reason for their infertility is established. This process takes about 7 days and costs only about Rs 100000 ( US $ 200. ) If it's a simple problem, I will suggest they find a gynecologist for their treatment. This allows us to concentrate on infertile couples who have complex problems , so that we can provide them with a high quality of service, without diluting our focus.

Are you still not sure about who to consult? Please send your medical details by filling in the Free Second Opinion Form , so I can guide you properly !
