Insurers in spot as medical advances push up treatment costs

This is an interesting article.

While new medical technology can help to make treatments safer and more effective, a lot of the new technology is unproven and extremely expensive. However, doctors love playing with new toys; hospitals love showing these off; and medical devise manufacturers market them aggressively. Since patients aren't footing the bill, it's the health insurance companies who have to pay for this technology , whose results are often no better than the old-fashioned, conservative ( and less expensive ) option.

The trouble is that new is not always superior - and assaulting  poor unsuspecting patients with the latest medical technology  will only result in all our health insurance policies becoming more expensive over time, if we do not curb this unbridled enthusiasm for the latest gizmo !
