Why are doctors so cruel ?

The patient in front of me was crying and sobbing her heart out. She was telling me about a consultation she had had with the famous gynecologist in Chennai, who told her bluntly to her face - "Madam, you will never have a baby." Her biggest complaint was - Why did he have to tell me this so cruelly ? Couldn't he have been kinder ? Aren't doctors supposed to understand that patients have feelings ?
