Why doctors never retire

Most doctors continue working in their 70s and 80s. Unlike most office workers or executives, why don't they retire ? Is it that they just don't have a life outside medicine; or that they are incapable of relaxing and enjoying themselves ?

I think the reason is that even though many doctors have enough financial resources to be able to retire in their50s, most continue working simply because it's so much fun !

There is no other profession in the world which provides so much immediate and ongoing emotional gratification as medicine done. Sure, there are lots of others which allow you to earn much more money . However, getting a " Thank You !" from your patients daily; and knowing that you have helped to solve their problems gives a buzz which is hard to match !

Doctors are privileged - and most of them know this , which is why they continue working - not for the money, but because it's fun !
